Greetings and thank you for joining this blogsite that honors so many fine veterans of foreign wars.
My name is DeAnn (Hlavac) Nichelson. Born on May 22, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska, it is important to give time and energy to help sustain our city's family environment. Thus, One Dove of Peace honors our brave warriors, through Omaha VFW Post 2503, as well as the community at large, with quilts.
Our country made a tremendous mistake with those that served in the Vietnam War, and we are making it again with those soldiers that came back from the Middle East only to find themselves homeless and destitute. I would like to take this moment to personally thank each and everyone of you that were part of these conflicts. Your tribute to our nation has gone unrecognized for much too long. If I had the time, talent, and money, I would make each of you a quilt, as your efforts were honorable. Please forgive our nation for its oversight and accept the respect and honor long overdue you. You are heroes!
Please add your own comments, thanks, and well-wishes to those that served the United States so proudly. We have so many veterans that visit the site that your positive thoughts will be appreciated.
As the daughter of a World War II veteran, I recognize the toll military service, especially the horrors of battle, take on those in combat activities. Yet, while their role is still misunderstood, so are the contributions of those behind the scenes, like trainers and those near the battlefront keeping payroll and supplies stable. Every enlisted person is valued, and deserving of thanks.
May your day bring you love and laughter!
DeAnn
